The Tiger Cats opened the season at home to Montreal, but failed to make the most of home advantage as they fell 30-27 in overtime.

They rebounded a week later though, as they went out on the road and got off the mark with a 37-27 victory in Winnipeg.

Hamilton made it back-to-back victories a week later, as they beat the BC Lions 41-27 at home to improve to 2-1.
