Gael Monfils took Learner Tien to 3 sets in Montreal and is more than capable of winning another set in New York. I am avoiding the short odds on Tien and backing both players to win a set.

Monfils Nearing the End
Gael Monfils has played sparingly in his final year on tour, going 5-9 and failing to get past the second round in all nine events.
The 40-year-old looked down and out against Adolfo Daniel Vallejo in New York. He rallied to win 2-6 6-1 6-2 6-0, close to unstoppable in the final three sets.
Tien Close to Top 10
Learner Tien became a Top 20 player in May and capitalised by winning the title in Geneva. He disappointed after that, going 4-4 before finding some form in Montreal.
The American got past Tommy Paul 6-3 6-2, Thiago Agustin Tirante and Daniel Merida Aguilar in straight sets but couldn’t handle Ben Shelton in the semi-finals, going down 6-2 6-3.
The 20-year-old ran into Frances Tiafoe in the third round in Cincinnati, going down in 3 sets.
Tien had no problems in New York, thrashing Nuno Borges 6-4 6-1 6-2 in quick time. He won 65% of his 2nd serves and saved 1/2 break points.
