This will be the first match between Jakub Mensik and Rinky Hijikata.
Rinky Hijikata went on a great run as a qualifier in Indian Wells, defeating Luciano Darderi and Alexander Bublik before a fourth round defeat to Cameron Norrie.
It was enough to get the Australian back in the Top 100 but he was unable to push on. His best performance since came at Queen's Club, getting past Alejandro Tabilo and Jiri Lehecka before a swift quarter-final exit against Ugo Humbert.
It was the start of a four match losing run, including a first round defeat to Jaume Munar in Montreal.
The 25-year-old came back to beat Gael Monfils 2-6 7-6 6-3 in his opening match in Cincinnati. He was dominant in the second round, thrashing Luciano Darderi 6-4 6-2 in 72 minutes, winning 76% of his 2nd serves and not allowing a break point.
Mensik's 2nd Serve a Worry
Jakub Mensik was on target to break into the Top 10 after beating Jannik Sinner in Doha. He had a poor start on clay before going on a strong semi-final run at the French Open.
The Czech went 1-2 on grass and began the hard court swing in Washington, beaten by Brandon Nakashima in the second round. He got to the quarter-finals in Montreal but didn’t last long, hammered 6-3 6-1 by Ben Shelton after winning just 25% of his 2nd serves.
Mensik was far from convincing against Mattia Bellucci in his opening match in Cincinnati. Down 4-2 in the third set, he came back to win 7-5 2-6 7-6, saving 5/8 break points.
