Kostyuk Continues Remarkable Comeback

Marta Kostyuk arrives this week in outstanding form after winning all 12 of her clay-court matches this season, capturing the titles in Rouen and Madrid. Those results also helped her achieve a career-high ranking of No. 15 a few weeks ago.

The Ukrainian’s resurgence has been especially impressive considering she missed nearly two months earlier this season because of an ankle injury suffered at the Australian Open. She also struggled in her comeback events at Indian Wells and Miami before the clay swing began.

Kostyuk has played the main draw at French Open six times in her career but cleared the opening round only twice, reaching the fourth round in 2021 and the second round in 2024.

Selekhmeteva Struggling For Momentum

Oksana Selekhmeteva arrives in Paris on a disappointing run of form. She has not recorded a main-draw victory since reaching the quarterfinals of the WTA 125 event in Madrid, with her last five tournaments ending either in qualifying or opening-round defeats.

The Russian enjoyed a breakthrough Grand Slam result earlier this season by reaching the third round of the Australian Open. She also produced a quarterfinal run at the WTA 125 tournament in Austin, but her level has gradually declined in recent months.

This is Selekhmeteva’s third main-draw appearance at French Open, and she lost in the opening round in both of her previous visits. Overall, she holds a 1-4 career record in Grand Slam opening-round matches.
