Sierra’s confidence is growing after impressive recent results, while Raducanu’s lack of rhythm and physical concerns make this a difficult matchup, even if the Brit can still stay competitive for periods.

Sierra Brings Clay Confidence

  • Emma Raducanu holds a 2–0 first-round record at the French Open.
  • She has not beaten a Top 80 player since Beijing last year.
  • Sierra owns a 1–4 record in Grand Slam opening rounds.
  • She won at least two matches in all three clay events this year.

Raducanu Fighting Through Setbacks

Emma Raducanu recently returned to competition after missing several weeks because of illness. Her comeback match came in Strasbourg last week, where she suffered a straight-sets defeat against Diane Parry in the opening round.

The Brit had shown improved consistency last season, but a foot injury late in the year halted her momentum. She later withdrew from the United Cup earlier this season because of the same issue and has also struggled with illness in recent months, preventing her from building rhythm on tour.

Raducanu has played seven tournaments in 2026, with six ending without multiple wins. Her best result came in Cluj-Napoca, where she reached the final. This is her third appearance at French Open, and she successfully cleared the opening round in both 2022 and 2025.

Sierra Eyes Strong Roland Garros Run

Solana Sierra struggled for consistency during the early part of the season. Before April, she played nine tournaments and, apart from a semifinal run at the WTA 125 event in Manila, managed only two main-draw wins across her other eight events combined.

However, the Argentine rediscovered her best level once the clay season began. She reached the fourth round in Madrid, her best result at WTA 1000 level, followed by a third-round appearance in Rome and a quarterfinal run at the WTA 125 event in Parma. Those performances helped her achieve a career-high ranking of No. 62 recently.

This is only Sierra’s sixth Grand Slam main-draw appearance. Aside from her impressive fourth-round run at Wimbledon Championships last year, she lost her other four Grand Slam appearances in the opening round, including at French Open in 2025.
