Fils Unbeaten in Japan

Arthur Fils lost to Carlos Alcaraz in the Qatar Open final before winning the title in Barcelona. A semi-final defeat to Jannik Sinner in Madrid saw him get into the Top 20.

The 22-year-old suffered a hip injury that forced him to miss the French Open. He hit top form in Cincinnati, beating Jiri Lehecka, Alex de Minaur, Flavio Cobolli and Frances Tiafoe on his way to the title.

The Frenchman suffered a disappointing defeat to Stefanos Tsitsipas in the first round at the US Open.

Fils had to qualify in Tokyo where he was champion in 2024. He did it the hard way, getting past Martin Damm and Kamil Majchrzak in 3 sets before a 6-3 6-2 first round victory over Luca Van Assche.

Tiafoe Into the Top 10

Frances Tiafoe won the title in Halle and went close in Cincinnati. He took out three Top 20 players on his way to the final where he lost in 3 sets to Arthur Fils.

The 28-year-old went on another deep run at the US Open, beating Daniil Medvedev and coming back to beat Alex Michelsen to earn a spot in the semi-finals. He won the first set against Ben Shelton before going down in 4 sets.

The American achieved a career high World No.8 as a result. He was hardly troubled in his opening match in Tokyo, easing past Kei Nishikori 6-4 6-4 in 74 minutes.
