Slovenia's identity has been built around fast transitions and quick attacks regardless of the opponent, and considering Iceland conceded 38 goals to underdog Switzerland, this sets up perfectly for another high-scoring affair.

Slovenia Playing for Pride with Attacking Freedom

Slovenia are heading into their final European Championship 2026 Main Round game with minimal semifinal hopes, needing a win here and then hope Sweden don't beat Switzerland, currently sitting 4th in the group with four points.

They gave Sweden a huge scare in the opening Main Round clash, leading 15-13 at half-time before eventually falling 35-31, but responded immediately with a strong 35-32 win over Hungary. Blaz Janc was outstanding in that victory, scoring ten goals and delivering several clutch finishes from the wing.

However, the Dragons failed to carry that momentum into their decisive clash on Tuesday against Croatia, where they struggled offensively and deservedly lost 29-25. Janc endured a rough night, missing more than half of his attempts, while Domen Makuc topped the scoring with six goals.

Iceland are One Win Away from the Semifinal

Iceland control their destiny in the semifinal race, recording one win, one draw and one defeat in the Main Round so far, and they clearly need a victory here to advance since Sweden slipped against Hungary.

Their second-phase campaign began with a narrow 30-29 defeat to Croatia, a match where a poor first half proved too costly despite a much stronger defensive showing after the break.

Iceland bounced back in spectacular fashion on Sunday, pulling off a massive upset by dismantling co-hosts and heavy favorites Sweden 35-27. Viggo Kristjansson was unstoppable from the right back position, finishing the match with 11 goals.

All they needed was a win against already-eliminated Switzerland on Monday, but their defense collapsed, and they barely escaped with a 38-38 draw after scoring twice in the final 90 seconds.
