Match Preview
Norway’s motivation and spirits have dropped to a minimum after their draw against Portugal eliminated them from the semifinal race. Denmark, on the other hand, are pushing to secure first place in the group, and I expect them to approach this clash with full focus and intensity. A convincing win for the Danes looks like the right play.
Denmark Closing in on the Semifinals
Denmark have fully recovered from their shocking 31-29 group-stage defeat to Portugal, winning all three Main Round contests and moving very close to clinching a semifinal spot.
They were under serious pressure in the Main Round opener against France, trailing for large stretches of the game before raising their defensive level in the second half to secure a huge 32-29 victory. Mathias Gidsel once again led by example, finishing with nine goals.
That momentum carried over into the clash against Spain, where Denmark controlled the tempo from start to finish and cruised to a 36-31 win. Emil Jakobsen was the standout performer in that match, scoring eight goals.
The Danes recorded their third straight Main Round victory on Monday night, beating Germany 31-26 to move just one point away from qualification.
Norway Running Out of Motivation
Norway’s Main Round campaign has been inconsistent, with one win, one draw and one loss proving insufficient to keep them in the semifinal race.
They showed great composure under pressure in the opener against Spain, a match filled with lead changes and high-intensity moments, eventually edging out a dramatic 35-34 victory to keep their hopes alive. However, that effort seemed to take its toll.
In the follow-up clash against Germany, the Lions held a 17-15 halftime lead but struggled offensively in the second half and suffered a 30-28 defeat, despite Sander Sagosen’s strong six-goal performance.
Norway’s final blow came on Monday against Portugal, a fast-paced and transition-heavy contest that ended in a 35-35 draw and eliminated both sides. August Pedersen was outstanding in that match, scoring 10 goals from 13 attempts.
