Shelton Getting it Done
Ben Shelton has been a Top 10 player since June 2025 and won four titles this year, lifting trophies in Dallas, Munich and Stuttgart. He didn’t drop a set, on his way to the title in Montreal.
The American lost in his opening match in Cincinnati, beaten 6-4 6-4 by Jaime Faria. He has won in 4 sets in his opening three matches at the US Open.
The 23-year-old came back to beat Tallon Griekspoor 1-6 6-1 7-6 6-2 and survived another tough clash against Hubert Hurkacz, getting through 6-3 5-7 7-6 7-5 after winning 66% of his 2nd serves.
Shelton hit 47 winners and 54 unforced errors in a 7-6 6-7 6-3 6-4 victory over Denis Shapovalov,
saying:
“That second set was tough. I was serving for the set twice and ended up losing the set when I felt like I was in control.”
“I really had to reset and refocus. It was important for me to get the next two sets and not be out here in a five-set war. I am happy with the way I recovered.”
Stefanos Tsitsipas is on the comeback trail after dropping as low as World No.88 in June. He split from his father and long-time coach after Wimbledon, hiring Thomas Perrin and immediately winning the title in Gstaad.
The 28-year-old couldn’t maintain that form on hard courts, beaten by Alex de Minaur in his opening match in Washington. He went out to Joao Fonseca in the second round in Montreal and Aleksandar Kovacevic in the third round in Winston Salem.
The Greek has taken out two Top 20 players at the US Open, beating Arthur Fils 4-6 7-6 6-1 6-4 despite winning 44% of his 2nd serves.
Tsitsipas rallied to beat Lloyd Harris 6-7 6-3 7-6 6-4 in over three hours and overturned another deficit in the third round. He got past Jiri Lehecka 2-6 6-1 7-6 6-1, winning 60% of his 2nd serves and saving 2/5 break points.
