Zverev Chasing Second Grand Slam

Alexander Zverev has been a Top 5 player for more than two years, unable to get the best of Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz in the latter stages of tournaments.

The German took advantage of their absence to win the French Open. He got to the Wimbledon final, winning the first set against Sinner before going down in 4 sets.

The 29-year-old went out early in Montreal, Cincinnati, and struggled in his opening two matches at the US Open. He came back to beat Lorenzo Sonego 6-4 3-6 6-7 7-5 6-4 before getting past Quentin Halys 6-4 4-6 7-6 6-7 6-3.

Zverev had no such issues in the third round, easing past Alejandro Tabilo 6-2 7-6 6-2.

Easy Draw for Darderi

Luciano Darderi has won five ATP Tour titles, all on clay. He went 22-11 on the red dirt this year, claiming the title in Santiago before a semi-final exit in Rome and final defeat in Bastad.

The Italian has a 41-47 record on hard courts and came to the US Open in poor form, crushed 6-1 6-0 by Botic van de Zandschulp in Winstom Salem.

Darderi has taken advantage of a soft draw in New York where he is yet to face a Top 120 player. He got past Harry Wendelken and Dalibor Svrcina in 4 sets before a 6-4 6-3 6-3 victory over Dane Sweeny.
