Tomas Machac won the Adelaide International in January but has gone 9-8 since, losing four of his final five matches on hard courts.
The 25-year-old ran into some difficult opponents on clay, beaten by Rafael Jodar in Marrakech, Jannik Sinner in Monte Carlo and Andrey Rublev in Barcelona. He beat Stefanos Tsitsipas in Rome but withdrew before the second round.

Alexander Zverev is 29-9 this year but continues to struggle against the top two players in men’s tennis. He lost his first five semi-finals, four of them against Carlos Alcaraz or Jannik Sinner.
