Duckworth Still in the Top 100

James Duckworth is 10-15 on the ATP Tour this year, failing to get past the second round. He came to Winston Salem with a 4-7 record but is clearly enjoying the conditions this week.

The 34-year-old didn’t drop a set in his opening three victories, defeating Quinn Vandecasteele 6-2 6-1, Mariano Navone 6-3 7-6 and Lorenzo Sonego 7-5 6-3.

The Australian came back to beat Fabian Marozsan 6-7 6-2 6-4 in the quarter-finals, winning 49% of his 2nd serves and saving 5/8 break points.

Fery Chasing First ATP Tour Final

Arthur Fils was virtually unknown before going on an improbable semi-final run at Wimbledon. The wild card beat Zizou Bergs, Grigor Dimitrov and Flavio Cobolli but couldn’t stick with Alexander Zverev.

The Brit took some time off before returning to action in Cincinnati, edging past James Duckworth in 3 sets before a 7-5 7-6 defeat to Alex de Minaur.

The 24-year-old was given a comfortable draw at Winston Salem and made it count, defeating Cruz Hewitt 6-1 7-5 and Mees Rottgering 6-3 6-3.

He fell behind against Aleksandar Kovacevic but was a deserved 3-6 7-5 6-3 winner, winning 62% of his 2nd serves and giving up one break point.
