Shnaider Ends Sabalenka's Major Streak
Diana Shnaider advanced to the semifinals at Roland Garros after defeating world No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka in three sets, 3-6, 7-5, 6-0. She trailed by a set and 1-4 before producing a remarkable turnaround to win the match. Notably, she won the final 10 games in a row.
The victory also ended Sabalenka's streak of six consecutive Grand Slam semifinal appearances. It was a stunning performance from Shnaider, who had won only two matches in her three previous appearances at the French Open before this year.
The 22-year-old arrived in Paris short on confidence after failing to win multiple matches in seven of her previous nine tournaments. Many of those defeats came against Top 20 opponents, a run that pushed her outside the Top 20 in the rankings.

Qualifier Stuns Again at Roland Garros
Maja Chwalinska continued her incredible qualifying run by reaching the semifinals at the French Open after defeating Anna Kalinskaya in straight sets, 7-6, 6-3. She nearly squandered a 5-1 lead in the opening set before recovering to take it in a tiebreak and then cruising through the second set.
With this victory, Chwalinska becomes only the sixth qualifier in the Open Era to reach a Grand Slam semifinal and the second at Roland Garros after Nadia Podoroska achieved the feat in 2020.
Although she has yet to face a Top 20 player during this run, her path to the semifinals has still been highly impressive. Earlier in the tournament, she defeated notable opponents such as Qinwen Zheng, Elise Mertens and Maria Sakkari.
The Pole began the season ranked around the Top 150. A breakthrough quarterfinal run in Cluj-Napoca, along with three other quarterfinal-or-better results at WTA 125 events, laid the foundation for this surge. With her remarkable run in Paris, she is now set to make her Top 30 debut next week.
