De Minaur Below his Best
Alex de Minaur had a positive start to the year, beaten by Carlos Alcaraz in the Australian Open quarter-finals and winning the title in Rotterdam.
The World No.7 went 1-3 to end the hard court swing, beaten by Patrick Kypson, Cameron Norrie and Stefanos Tsitsipas.
The Australian got to the quarter-finals in Monte Carlo last week where he was beaten 6-4 3-6 6-3 by Valentin Vacherot. He had more than enough chances but only won 3/17 break points.
De Minaur got through the first round in Barcelona, beating Sebastian Ofner 7-6 6-4 in just under two hours. He won 55% of his 2nd serves and saved all four break points.
Medjedovic Outclassed on the ATP Tour
Hamad Medjedovic is still attempting to break into the Top 50, unable to get past the second round in his previous 10 tournaments on the ATP Tour.
The Serbian began the clay court season by winning the Naples Challenger. He couldn’t translate that to the tour, beaten by World No.70 Vit Kopriva in the first round in Marrakech.
Medjedovic went over two hours in each qualifier in Barcelona, defeating Vilius Gaubas 7-6 6-4 and Quentin Halys 6-2 3-6 7-6. He got past lucky loser Marco Trungelliti 7-5 6-4 in the first round.
