Arouca were recently outclassed in Porto and I expect a similar performance in Lisbon. Luis Suarez is proving unstoppable and the striker is well placed to find the net once again.

Key Stats

  • Sporting CP have won their last 6 home matches.
  • Sporting CP’s Luis Suarez has scored 6 goals in his last 5 matches.
  • Sporting CP have won to nil in 4 of their last 7 home matches against Arouca.
  • Arouca have lost 6 of their last 9 away matches.
  • Arouca have scored 1 goal in their last 3 away matches.

Sporting CP have a dominant 18-1 lead against Arouca alongside two draws.

Sporting's Streak Stopped

Sporting are yet to lose this season, going on a five match winning run. They overcame some defensive issues to win two of those games with clean sheets.

The Lions fell behind early against Galatasaray in the Champions League but turned it around in style. Geny Catamo, Luis Suárez and Rodrigo Zalazar scored to secure a 3-1 victory.

A sixth straight win was in sight after Suárez converted a late penalty at Famalicão. The hosts were reduced to 10 men before Gonçalo Inácio’s added time own goal saw the contest end in a 1-1 draw.

Rui Borges talked about concentration after the game: “I think we lacked, especially in the first half, decision-making in the final third. In the last 20 minutes, we missed a lot of passes near the Famalicão area.”

“We had opportunities to score, but we didn't. It's like I say, we can't stay switched on for just 90 minutes, we have to do so for 91 or 96 minutes. We can't disconnect from the game, above all.”

Scoring Issues on the Road for Arouca

Arouca won three of their opening four matches this season, interrupted by a 2-0 defeat at Porto where they created one shot on target and had 0.54-2.99 xG.

Vasco Seabra’s side drew 0-0 at Estoril in their last road game, a deserved result with goalkeeper Ignacio de Arruabarrena man of the match.

The Wolves of the Serra are coming off a 2-1 home defeat to Santa Clara. They had 64% possession but did little with it, ending with 0.55-1.73 xG.

Seabra admitted his side were below their best: "I think it was a game where we started well for 15 minutes and then had a bad 30 minutes, with a drop in intensity and aggression. In terms of how we competed, we weren't at our usual level."
