Porto Perfect in Liga Portugal

Porto won their opening six matches this season, the first five coming with clean sheets.

Francesco Farioli’s side conceded against Moreirense but turned it around to win 2-1, ending with 70% possession and 9-2 shots on target.

The Dragons were given a reality check in the Champions League after a 2-0 defeat to Manchester City. There were no complaints after registering 36% possession, 5-20 shots and 0.28-2.32 xG.

Porto fell behind again at Casa Pia before scoring four unanswered goals. Santiago Giménez came off the bench to score the final goal in a 4-1 victory, his first since moving on loan from AC Milan.

Farioli prasied his team and immediately turned his attention to Benfica: “All the conditions were in place for this game not to be easy, but the team proved to have maturity, consistency and the ability to react to adversity.”

“We will have a whole week to prepare and to welcome them to the Dragão with the right spirit and the desire to put on a great performance in front of our fans.”

Eight Straight for Benfica

Benfica are in tremendous form after winning eight consecutive games, scoring 27 goals with four conceded.

The Eagles did it the hard way in their last home game against Gil Vicente. Falling behind in the 7th minute, Vangelis Pavlidis scored twice and Gianluca Prestianni found the net to earn a 3-1 victory.

Marco Silva made nine changes in their opening Europa League match at AC Milan. Dodi Lukébakio and Jakub Kaminski scored in a 2-0 win, their first in seven attempts against the Italian club.

The manager spoke about the need to keep improving: “I think we have a lot of things to improve on. Today we demonstrated that again, that there’s a lot to improve.”

“At certain points in the game, we need to be able to defend a little higher up the field than we did at times in the second half. If we’d made slightly different decisions, we could have created even more chances than we did.”

Porto (4-3-3) Diogo Costa; Alberto Costa, Jan Bednarek, Jakub Kiwior, Martim Fernandes; Pablo Rosario, Alan Varela, Gabri Veiga; William Gomes, André Silva, Pepê
