Moreirense have been hard to beat in Moreira de Cónegos and the odds seem too high on the hosts. Gil Vicente haven’t won in four games, scoring two goals in that run and could be content with a draw here.

Key Stats

  • Moreirense are undefeated in 5 of their last 6 home games.
  • Moreirense have drawn 6 of their last 13 home games against Gil Vicente.
  • Gil Vicente have drawn 9 of their last 14 away matches.

Gil Vicente beat Moreirense twice last season to build an 18-11 advantage alongside 10 draws.

Moreirense Inconsistent This Season

Moreirense have conceded 14 goals in seven matches, not helped by 4-0 defeats in Arouca and at home against Benfica.

Vasco Botelho da Costa’s side beat Maritimo 3-1 in their previous home game. Croatian striker Leonardo Vonic scored in his first appearance and Alexandre Duville-Parsemain came off the bench to net his first goal of the season.

Vonic assisted Tiago Andrade as the northern club took the lead at Vitoria de Guimaraes before the international break. They conceded in the 95th minute to draw 1-1, ending the contest with 33% possession and 0.49-1.16 xG.

Botelho da Costa admitted that the break came at a good time for his team: “Honestly, I think we need a break, it's been a demanding cycle for us.”

“We already played Braga, Benfica, Porto, and Vitória, it's been a very demanding cycle for us. We had to compete and, at the same time, develop the team. We see this break as an opportunity to work.”

Four Games Without a Win for Gil Vicente

Gil Vicente had a great start to the season, keeping three consecutive clean sheets which included home wins against Rio Ave (1-0) and Casa Pia (2-0).

A poor run of form began with an unlucky 1-0 defeat against Academico Viseu, endng with 33-6 shots and 1.88-0.34 xG. Héctor Hernández opened the scoring at Benfica before conceding two late goals in a 3-1 defeat.

Late goals hurt Luís Pinto’s side again before the break, conceding in the 92nd minute to draw 1-1 against Maritimo.

Pinto admitted his side faded in the second half: “We have a positive aspect to hold onto, which is the quality we showed on the pitch, especially in the first 30 minutes and even in the second half, where we couldn't maintain the pace.”

“We had more than enough opportunities to score. There are days when we deserve to lose and we say that's football, we did more than enough to win, and that hurts more.”

The Barcelos club have now scored five and conceded five goals in six matches, coming in at an average of 1.67 goals a game.
