USA Looking to Stay Near the Top
The United States are in an excellent position to qualify for the Nations League 2026 final tournament after winning eight of their ten matches, currently sitting second in the standings.
After ending Week 1 with a dramatic 3-2 defeat to reigning world champions Italy, the Americans opened Week 2 with back-to-back straight-set victories over Cuba and Iran before falling 3-2 to table leaders Japan. The Stars and Stripes responded immediately by beating Serbia 3-1 in convincing fashion.
USA have carried that momentum into Week 3, first sweeping struggling China 3-0 in front of the home crowd before backing it up with another straight-sets victory over fellow playoff contenders Brazil yesterday.
Bulgaria Running Out of Chances
Despite their impressive performances at the 2025 World Championship, Bulgaria are in danger of missing the Nations League final tournament for the second consecutive year. They currently occupy eighth place with a 6-4 record.
The Bulgarians endured an inconsistent Week 1 before opening Week 2 with a huge 3-2 victory over reigning world champions Italy. They then suffered another five-set defeat against hosts Slovenia but recovered with wins over Canada (3-2) and Ukraine (3-1).
Bulgaria were unable to carry that momentum into Week 3, suffering a surprisingly comfortable 3-0 defeat to reigning champions Poland in the opening round, but responded by defeating bottom-placed China 3-1 to remain in the playoff race.
