Match Preview
Slovenia are probably just one win away from securing a place in the final tournament, while Germany need to win all three remaining matches to keep their qualification hopes alive. An important clash awaits in Belgrade.
Germany Had Mixed Results so Far
Germany need a strong finish to the Nations League 2026 group stage to remain in contention for the final tournament. They currently sit 10th in the standings with a 4-4 record.
After ending Week 1 with two wins from four matches, the Germans opened Week 2 with a disappointing 3-2 defeat to struggling Argentina before responding with a 3-1 victory over Belgium.
They were unable to upset reigning champions Poland in the following round, losing 3-1, but bounced back in their most recent outing with a 3-1 victory over China.
Slovenia Closing In on Qualification
Slovenia made the most of playing in front of their home fans during Week 2, producing a series of strong performances to climb to fourth place with a 6-2 record.
The Slovenians recorded three consecutive victories in late June, defeating Canada (3-1), Bulgaria (3-2) and one of the tournament favourites, Brazil (3-0).
They finished the week against reigning world champions Italy, taking the opening set 25-23 before fading away and eventually losing 3-1, scoring just 57 points across the final three sets.
