Match Preview

Canada are desperate to end their six-match losing streak and move away from the bottom of the standings, while Argentina have been inconsistent throughout the campaign. A closely contested match is expected in Osaka.

Canada Having a Disappointing Campaign

Canada’s Nations League 2026 playoff hopes disappeared some time ago, and they now enter the final week battling to avoid relegation. They currently sit 16th in the standings with a 1-7 record.

Their performances in Week 1 were competitive but lacked consistency, as they suffered three consecutive defeats against Slovenia (3-1), Ukraine (3-2) and Bulgaria (3-2).

Their losing streak extended to four matches in late June when they pushed one of the title favourites, Brazil, all the way before eventually falling 3-2 after twice coming from behind to force a deciding set.

Argentina Hoping to Finish on a Positive Note

Argentina are in a similar position to their upcoming opponents, having already missed out on the final tournament after winning just two of their eight matches. One more victory would likely guarantee their survival.

Both of those wins came during Week 2, when they defeated Germany 3-2 before producing an impressive straight-sets victory over China. They were unable to build on that momentum, though, losing a five-set thriller to Turkey.

Argentina finished June with a 3-1 defeat to favourites Poland despite winning a marathon opening set 50-48. They also recently suffered a 3-1 friendly defeat against Italy.
