Match Preview
Despite the odds being against them, Bulgaria remain alive in the race for a Top 7 finish, while France were officially eliminated from playoff contention after yesterday’s defeat to Poland. Which side will come out on top in Chicago?
Bulgaria Coming Off Huge Victory
Bulgaria’s place in the Volleyball Nations League 2026 finals depends heavily on this final match, with the Balkan side currently sitting sixth in the standings on a 7-4 record.
The Bulgarians opened Week 3 with an underwhelming straight-sets defeat to reigning champions Poland but bounced back with a 3-1 victory over bottom-placed China.
They were considered heavy underdogs against hosts USA last night but produced one of their best performances of the campaign, claiming a huge 3-1 victory to keep their playoff hopes alive.
France Lack Motive
France’s chances of reaching the Volleyball Nations League 2026 final tournament are over, with Les Bleus currently occupying 12th place in the standings with a 5-6 record.
Week 1 proved difficult as the French won just one of their four matches, but they responded well in Week 2 by defeating Iran (3-2), Cuba (3-2) and Serbia (3-0). They also pushed table leaders Japan all the way before narrowly losing 3-2.
This week's performances have been less convincing. France suffered a 3-0 defeat to Brazil, responded with a straight-sets victory over bottom-placed China, but saw their playoff hopes officially end after yesterday's 3-1 loss to Poland.
