Starodubtseva Looks To Build On Her Recent Revival

Yulia Starodubtseva recently snapped her six-match losing streak by posting some confidence-boosting results, reaching the third round at the US Open and the quarterfinals in Monterrey. She will look to build on that progress this week.

The 26-year-old endured a disappointing stretch towards the end of last season, winning only three main-draw matches in 11 events. She now has a great opportunity to improve her ranking in the coming weeks if she can produce some notable results.

She has played 23 events this year, with 13 ending either in the qualifying stages or the first round, including five of her last seven.

Charaeva Continues Her Rapid Rise On Tour

Alina Charaeva has enjoyed a solid rise this year, posting six quarterfinal-or-better results on the lower-level circuit, including the WTA 125 title in Midland.

The Russian has translated that success to the main tour in recent weeks, reaching the quarterfinals in Hamburg and Sao Paulo. Those results are particularly impressive considering she failed to win a match at this level until July.

She now heads into this clash with a 2-7 record against top-50 players. Both of those wins came earlier this year against Sara Bejlek and Xinyu Wang in WTA 125 events on clay.
