The WTA Hamburg Open returns to the historic Am Rothenbaum Tennis Center, one of the sport's most iconic clay-court venues.
First revived in 2021 after nearly two decades away from the WTA calendar, the tournament regained its WTA 250 status in 2025 and once again welcomes a 32-player singles draw in Germany's second-largest city.

Hamburg boasts one of the richest traditions in tennis as the fifth-oldest tournament in the world, with legends such as Steffi Graf and Monica Seles featuring prominently in its history. This year's edition features a wide-open field led by top seed Oleksandra Oliynykova, with Anhelina Kalinina, Panna Udvardy and Anna Bondar among the leading contenders for the clay-court title.

Tournament Overview

The 2026 MSC Hamburg Ladies Open will be held from July 20 to July 26 at the historic Am Rothenbaum Tennis Center in Hamburg, Germany. The WTA 250 tournament is played on outdoor clay courts and marks the sixth edition since the event returned to the WTA calendar in 2021. It features a 32-player singles draw competing for the title in one of the sport's most historic venues.

Hamburg is the fifth-oldest tennis tournament in the world and has hosted some of the game's greatest champions over its long history. Defending champion Lois Boisson is absent this year, leaving the title race wide open, with top seed Oleksandra Oliynykova leading a competitive field that also includes Anhelina Kalinina, Panna Udvardy and Anna Bondar.

Playing Conditions & Court Speed

Played on the outdoor clay courts of Am Rothenbaum, the Hamburg Open typically provides slow to medium-paced conditions with a high, consistent bounce. The surface rewards patience, heavy topspin and strong movement, allowing baseline specialists to construct points rather than relying on outright power.

Long rallies are common in Hamburg, making endurance and clay-court discipline key factors throughout the week. Players capable of defending well, creating angles and maintaining consistency from the baseline are often the ones who enjoy the deepest runs.

Top 8 Seeds

A balanced field heads to Hamburg this year, with no player ranked inside the world's top 50, making the WTA 250 title one of the most open on the calendar. Several proven clay-court performers and experienced tour regulars will fancy their chances of putting together a deep run at Am Rothenbaum.

While Oleksandra Oliynykova enters as the top seed, players such as Anhelina Kalinina, Panna Udvardy and Anna Bondar have the experience to challenge for the title. With the draw lacking a clear standout favorite, consistency on clay could prove decisive throughout the week.

Recent Champions

Since returning to the WTA calendar in 2021, the Hamburg Open has produced five different singles champions, highlighting just how competitive the tournament has become. With defending champion Lois Boisson not returning this year, a new opportunity awaits the rest of the field to add their name to the tournament's growing history.

Players to Watch

Oleksandra Oliynykova
The top seed arrives in Hamburg after a breakthrough rise into the top 50 and will be one of the leading contenders for the title. Comfortable on clay and capable of producing heavy groundstrokes from both wings, the Ukrainian has developed into a consistent performer at tour level and will fancy her chances in an open draw.

Anhelina Kalinina
Kalinina brings plenty of experience to Hamburg, having spent several years competing at the highest level of the WTA Tour. The Ukrainian is at her best on clay, where her movement, consistency and ability to extend rallies make her a difficult opponent for anyone in the field.

Anna Bondar
Few players in the draw are as comfortable on clay as Bondar. The Hungarian has built much of her success on the surface thanks to her heavy topspin and aggressive baseline game, making her a genuine title contender if she finds her best tennis during the week.

Sinja Kraus
Kraus continues to make steady progress on the WTA Tour and has shown she can compete with higher-ranked opponents. The Austrian enjoys clay-court conditions and possesses the variety and fighting spirit needed to put together another deep run at WTA 250 level.

For those seeking bigger-priced options, Anhelina Kalinina's experience and Sinja Kraus' improving clay-court game make them attractive long-shot picks to go deep.
