Playing Conditions & Court Speed

The 2026 National Bank Open is played on the outdoor hard courts of Sobeys Stadium in Toronto. The tournament is traditionally one of the fastest and most demanding stops of the North American hard-court swing, rewarding players who can take control with aggressive first-strike tennis and strong serving.

Toronto's warm summer conditions typically produce lively court speeds and a consistent bounce, allowing attacking baseliners to dictate play while still giving elite defenders opportunities to counterpunch. The conditions provide an excellent preparation for the US Open, making this one of the most important events of the season.

Players to Watch

Aryna Sabalenka
World No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka arrives in Toronto as the player to beat. One of the most dominant hard-court players on the WTA Tour, her powerful serve and aggressive baseline game make her a natural favourite for the title. She has enjoyed another outstanding season and will be eager to add a first Canadian Open crown to her growing collection of WTA 1000 trophies.

Elena Rybakina
Elena Rybakina remains one of the most dangerous players on outdoor hard courts. Her effortless power, elite serving and calm temperament make her a constant threat in big events, and these conditions suit her game perfectly. If she finds her best level, she has every chance of lifting the trophy.

Mirra Andreeva
Mirra Andreeva has continued her rapid rise in 2026 and arrives in Toronto as the reigning Roland Garros champion. Despite her young age, she has already established herself among the world's elite, combining exceptional court coverage with remarkable tactical maturity. She will be one of the biggest threats to the top seeds.

Iga Swiatek
Although seeded seventh, Iga Swiatek cannot be overlooked. The former world No. 1 has the experience and consistency to make deep runs at the biggest tournaments, and a return to hard courts could provide the ideal platform for her to regain momentum during the North American swing.

Linda Noskova
Linda Noskova has developed into one of the WTA Tour's most exciting young talents and continues to climb the rankings. Her aggressive style and clean ball-striking are ideally suited to Toronto's medium-fast hard courts, making her a genuine dark horse capable of upsetting the favourites.
