Oliynykova Looks to Repeat Her French Open Run
Oleksandra Oliynykova defeated wildcard entrant Reese Brantmeier in straight sets to reach the second round of the US Open, winning 6-4, 6-4. She fell a break behind in both sets but responded quickly on each occasion to fight back and get the job done.
This is only the second time in her career that she has cleared the opening-round hurdle at a Grand Slam. She previously achieved the feat at the French Open earlier this year, where she went on to reach the third round. She will now look to repeat that run in New York.
The Ukrainian had never won a tour-level main-draw match before this year, but she has produced several impressive results since then, including semifinal runs in Cluj-Napoca and Iasi, along with third-round appearances in Rome and at the French Open. These results helped her make her Top 50 debut recently.

Eala Looks to Build on Her Dominant US Open Start
Alexandra Eala started her US Open campaign with a dominant straight-sets victory over Mary Stoiana, winning 6-1, 6-2. She saved all six break points she faced and converted four of the eight opportunities she created.
This was only her second career win at the US Open. Last year, she also cleared the opening-round hurdle but lost to Cristina Bucsa in straight sets in the following match. She returns this year as a Top 20 player, carrying strong momentum and looking to produce a much deeper run.
The Filipino youngster has continued to raise her level since the start of the year. Apart from some struggles during the clay-court season, she has produced consistent results, including winning her maiden tour-level title in Washington a few weeks ago, which helped her break into the Top 20.
Her only previous second-round victory at a Grand Slam came at Wimbledon a few weeks ago, where she defeated Maya Joint and Iga Swiatek to reach the fourth round. She will now look to build on her recent hard-court momentum and progress further this week.
