Both Americans have shown encouraging form in New York, but Gauff has the stronger momentum heading into this matchup. With nine straight wins behind her, she looks better placed to advance.

Jovic Continues Her Remarkable Grand Slam Progress

Iva Jovic followed two comfortable straight-set wins with a tight three-set victory over Alexandra Eala to reach the fourth round at the US Open, winning 7-5, 3-6, 7-5. She trailed by a break twice in the deciding set but raised her level late to close out the match.

Jovic will be pleased with her run so far, especially after entering this campaign without recording multiple wins at either Cincinnati or Toronto. She has found her rhythm this week and reached the second week of the US Open for the first time.

She has also posted five quarterfinal or better results on tour this year and made significant progress across all three surfaces, helping her climb to a career-high ranking of No. 14 recently.

Before 2026, Jovic had never won multiple matches at a Grand Slam, but she has now won at least two matches at all four majors this year. She has reached the second week at three of them, including a quarterfinal run at the Australian Open, while she lost in the fourth round to Jessica Pegula at Wimbledon.

Gauff Reaches Fifth Straight US Open Fourth Round

Coco Gauff defeated Cristina Bucsa in straight sets to reach the fourth round this week, winning 6-3, 6-4. She was broken twice but converted four of the nine break points she created during the match.

This is Gauff's fifth consecutive fourth-round appearance at the US Open. She won her first two matches at this stage but has lost the last two, most recently against Naomi Osaka last year.

A few months ago, Gauff was struggling to find her rhythm consistently and lost significant ranking points during the clay swing, including failing to defend her title at Roland Garros. However, she bounced back impressively, reaching the semifinals at Wimbledon and Toronto before winning another title in Cincinnati.

Gauff has an 11-7 record in Grand Slam fourth-round matches in her career, but she is 0-3 against fellow Americans at this stage. She will face another American this week in Jovic.
