Jovic Takes Another Step Forward in New York
Iva Jovic moved into the third round at the US Open after defeating Francesca Jones in straight sets, 6-4, 6-4. Despite losing her serve twice, the American youngster remained in control for most of the match and secured another convincing victory.
This is Jovic's best result at the US Open, having previously reached the second round twice, with both appearances ending in losses. It is also her first run of back-to-back wins since Wimbledon, following early exits in Toronto and Cincinnati.
The American youngster has produced impressive results throughout the year, helping her reach a career-high ranking of 14 recently. She notably reached the quarterfinals at the Australian Open and fourth round at Wimbledon, Rome, while also recording four other semifinal-or-better results on tour.
Before 2026, Jovic had never progressed beyond the second round at a Grand Slam. This year, however, she has reached the third round at all four Grand Slam events. Apart from her loss at this stage at the French Open, she converted her other two third-round appearances into second-week runs.

Eala Maintains Her Impressive Hard-Court Surge
Alexandra Eala has defeated both of her opponents in comfortable straight sets to reach the third round at the US Open, beating Oleksandra Oliynykova 6-1, 6-4 and Mary Stoiana 6-1, 6-2.
The 21-year-old has arrived this week with impressive momentum after recently lifting her maiden WTA title in Washington and also reaching the fourth round in Toronto.
Eala has produced steady results throughout the season, but her performances since the start of the grass-court swing have been extraordinary. She has won five of her six matches against Top 10 opponents during this period, highlighting her rise in ability and confidence.
She had played only one third-round match at a Grand Slam before this tournament, which came at Wimbledon a few months ago. There, she produced a major upset by defeating defending champion Iga Swiatek before losing to Jasmine Paolini. Eala will now be looking to reach the second week at a Grand Slam for the second time this season.
