Gauff Survives Andreeva to Book Another New York Final
Coco Gauff defeated Mirra Andreeva from a set down to reach the semifinals at the US Open, winning 2-6, 7-6, 6-2. She faced two match points for a straight-set loss but fought back impressively to complete the comeback in three sets.
This is Gauff's second US Open semifinal. She previously reached this stage in 2023, defeating Karolina Muchova in the semifinals before beating Aryna Sabalenka in the final to lift the title.
With this run, Gauff has extended her winning streak to 11 matches, including her title-winning campaign in Cincinnati. She has also been playing solid tennis in recent months, reaching the semifinals at Wimbledon and Toronto.
Before that, she experienced some struggles during the clay swing, including losing significant ranking points after failing to defend her Roland Garros title. However, her recent form has helped her make up some of those lost points.
Gauff has a 3-3 record in Grand Slam semifinals and has lost three of her last four matches at this stage, most recently against Karolina Muchova at Wimbledon a few months ago.

Rybakina's Rise Continues With First US Open Final
Elena Rybakina defeated Qinwen Zheng from a set down to reach the semifinals at the US Open, winning 3-6, 6-1, 6-4. After losing the opening set, she dominated the next two, did not lose her serve and closed out the match comfortably.
The Kazakh has now become the new World No. 1 following her victory over Zheng, becoming the second-oldest player to reach the top ranking for the first time in her career.
A few weeks ago, she retired during the quarterfinals in Cincinnati due to injury, which raised concerns heading into this campaign. However, she has shown no signs of those problems in New York, producing impressive tennis and dropping only one set throughout the tournament.
Rybakina has played five semifinals this year and won four of them, including victories over Pegula at the Australian Open and Gauff in Toronto a few weeks ago.
She has a 3-1 record in Grand Slam semifinals, with her only loss coming against Barbora Krejcikova at Wimbledon in 2024.
