Sabalenka Targets Sixth Consecutive US Open Semifinal
Aryna Sabalenka defeated local favorite Taylor Townsend in straight sets to reach the quarterfinals this week, winning 6-4, 6-3. She lost her serve four times but broke her opponent seven times during the match.
This is Sabalenka's sixth straight quarterfinal appearance at the US Open, and she has won all five of her previous matches at this stage. She will look to extend that impressive streak this week.
She will be relieved with the result after losing three consecutive fourth-round matches in recent tournaments. She has now extended her winning streak at the US Open to 17 matches.
This is her eighth quarterfinal appearance on tour this year, and she has won five of her previous seven. Both of her losses came on clay, in Madrid and at the French Open.
The 28-year-old has a 13-2 record in Grand Slam quarterfinals. Both of her losses came against Russian opponents at Roland Garros, against Mirra Andreeva in 2024 and Diana Shnaider earlier this year.

Noskova Makes US Open Breakthrough With Kostyuk Win
Linda Noskova secured her place in the quarterfinals after defeating Marta Kostyuk in a tight three-set battle, 7-5, 5-7, 6-4. She led by a set and a break and had two opportunities to close out the match in straight sets, but was forced to play a decider before eventually winning it.
This is Noskova's best result at the US Open. She had previously won only four matches across four appearances here and notably reached the third round last year.
With this run, she has become the youngest Czech player to reach the US Open quarterfinals since Daja Bedanova in 2001.
The Czech has played five quarterfinals on tour this year and won three of them, including her biggest title at Wimbledon, where she lifted her maiden Grand Slam trophy. That success helped her break into the Top 10 recently.
Noskova has a 1-1 record in Grand Slam quarterfinals. She lost at this stage to Dayana Yastremska at the Australian Open but won against Elise Mertens during her Wimbledon title run earlier this year.
