Paul 1-3 in 2026 Finals

Tommy Paul has reached four finals this year, the first in Delray Beach where he lost to Sebastian Korda. He won in Houston, beating Roman Andres Burruchaga to claim the title.

The American was favoured in Hamburg where he suffered a shock defeat to qualifier Ignacio Buse. His fourth final came at Queen's Club, going down in 3 sets to Francisco Cerundolo.

The 29-year-old lost three of his previous four matches before the Cincinnati Open, two of those defeats coming against players outside the Top 50.

Paul has gone the distance in all three victories, beating Hubert Hurkacz 6-4 6-7 6-3, Adolfo Daniel Vallejo 3-6 6-3 6-4 and Alexander Zverev 4-6 7-6 6-4. He saved a match point against Zverev and came back from 4-2 down in the third set.

Asked how he turned it around, Paul said: "Not really sure. I guess just put some returns in. He gave me a couple of looks at second serves and a couple of doubles there, that helped me out a tonne.

"Then I was just going after the ball a little bit more, going after the second [serve] a little bit more. And I’m having fun out here, having fun."

Cobolli Still in the Top 10

Flavio Cobolli won the title in Acapulco and went close in Munich, beating Alexander Zverev before a final defeat to Ben Shelton. He met Zverev again in the French Open final, going down in 5 sets.

The World No.10 went on another deep run at Wimbledon, reaching the quarter-finals where he suffered a surprise defeat to Arthur Fery. It was the start of a poor run of form, losing his opening matches in Umag and Montreal.

The 24-year-old hasn’t done it easy in Cincinnati, defeating Miomir Kecmanovic 6-1 4-6 6-3, Alexander Blockx 7-5 4-6 7-5 and Rafael Jodar 4-6 7-6 6-3.

Cobolli described the victory over Jodar: "I just (told) myself to believe, to fight in every point, and I knew I would get a chance.

"Rafa, I think he played an incredible season, an incredible week, so I think he felt a little tired at the beginning of the second. Still, I think the level was really high and in the third set, I pushed (myself) to the limit."
