Former Runner-Up Seeks Strong Start
Panna Udvardy wrapped up her grass season with two wins from the four tournaments she played. All four of her defeats on the surface came against higher-ranked opponents, and she will now look to rediscover her best form on clay.
The Hungarian made a slow start to the season, finishing the Australian swing without a win. However, she improved significantly during the clay swing by reaching the final in Bogota, the semifinals in Rabat, and the quarterfinals of the WTA 125 Antalya event.
This is her fourth appearance in Iasi. She holds a 2-1 record in opening-round matches here, having reached the final on her debut in 2022 and the quarterfinals in 2025.

Romero Gormaz Looks to Build on Recent Form
Leyre Romero Gormaz qualified for the main draw this week after defeating Cristiana Todoni and Zhibek Kulambayeva in straight sets, 6-0, 6-3 and 6-1, 6-4, respectively. This is her first tour-level main-draw appearance of the season.
Like her opponent, the Spaniard struggled for consistency earlier this year, but her results have improved in recent months. She won the WTA 125 Foggia title and reached the quarterfinals at the WTA 125 Bastad and Modena events.
This is her second appearance in Iasi. On her tournament debut, she lost to Elina Avanesyan in straight sets.
