Sherif Faces a Tough Return in Monterrey
Mayar Sherif is set to play her first match since suffering a leg injury during the Hamburg semifinal last month, which ended her 18-match winning streak on clay. That run included titles in Iasi and the WTA 125 events in Contrexeville and Brescia.
Before that impressive clay run, she struggled for consistency and registered multiple wins only twice in her first 14 events of the year, reaching the semifinals at WTA 125 events in Antalya and Dubrovnik.
This is her fourth appearance in Monterrey, and she has improved her result in each visit, reaching the first round in 2021, second round in 2022 and quarterfinals in 2023.

Oleksandra Oliynykova Looks to Continue Her Rise
Oleksandra Oliynykova won her maiden tour-level match on outdoor hard courts in Cincinnati recently, defeating Elvina Kalieva in straight sets before losing to Mirra Andreeva in the following round.
The Ukrainian has shown impressive progress on tour this year, reaching the semifinals in Ostrava and Iasi, the quarterfinals in Hamburg and the third round in Rome and at the French Open. These results helped her make her Top 50 debut recently.
She will now be looking to extend her success on hard courts while making her debut in Monterrey this week. She heads into the clash with an 8-5 record in opening-round matches on tour this year.
