Joint and Birrell have endured difficult seasons, though Joint’s stronger recent performances make her the favourite.

Joint Bids For A Third Tour-Level Title

  • Maya Joint has a 2–0 record in tour-level finals.
  • She has won nine of her last 12 matches against fellow compatriots.
  • Birrell has a 0–2 record in tour-level finals.
  • She has a 19–7 record against players outside the Top 50 on hard courts in 2026.

Joint Seeks Another Title To Revive Her Season

Maya Joint secured her place in the final after her opponent, Alina Korneeva, retired while trailing by a set and 0-1. It is Joint’s best result here after she lost in the semifinals last year.

The 20-year-old made a remarkable comeback in the first round against Xinyu Yao after trailing by a set and 1-5 at one stage, but she has not dropped a set since then.

The Australian’s form has significantly faded this year as she failed to replicate last year’s results and registered multiple main-draw wins only twice, which saw her ranking move close to the top 100.

She has played two finals on tour and won both of them. She will look to extend that record this week.

Birrell Sets Sights On A Breakthrough Week

Kimberly Birrell defeated Anna Bondar in three sets to reach the final this week, winning 7-5, 2-6, 6-1. She also defeated Katie Volynets from a set down in the previous round.

Before arriving this week, she endured a difficult stretch as she won only four main-draw matches in her last 14 events.

She reached a couple of semifinals on tour earlier this year, making the last four in Adelaide and Austin. With this run, she will achieve a career-best ranking next week.

She has played two finals on tour before in her career, losing both in straight sets in Chennai in 2025 and Osaka in 2024. She will be looking for her first tour-level title this year.
