Alejandro Davidovich Fokina is enjoying the best spell of his career after winning the title in Mallorca and reaching the second week at Wimbledon. However, the switch from grass back to clay is not always straightforward, and he also faces a psychological hurdle, having lost all three previous meetings with Marco Trungelliti. Those factors make this a trickier matchup than the odds suggest.

Trungelliti Faces A Major Challenge

  • Trungelliti has failed to win multiple matches in eight of his last nine events.
  • He owns a 2–4 career record against Top 20 players.
  • Davidovich Fokina is 4–0 in opening-round clay-court matches in 2026.
  • He has a 15–4 record against players outside the Top 50 this year.

Trungelliti Seeks Return to Winning Ways

Marco Trungelliti moved into the second round after defeating Kyrian Jacquet in straight sets, 6-2, 6-3. He dropped serve only once and converted five of the eight break points he created.

The Argentine reached a career-high ranking of No. 76 a few months ago after winning the Kigali Challenger title and finishing runner-up in Marrakech, his maiden ATP Tour final.

However, he has been unable to build on those results, failing to win multiple matches in eight of his last nine tournaments, highlighting his dip in form in recent weeks.

Davidovich Fokina Returns with Confidence

Alejandro Davidovich Fokina is coming off an impressive grass swing, where he won his maiden ATP title in Mallorca, reached the quarterfinals at Queen's Club, and the fourth round at Wimbledon. It was the best grass-court season of his career.

Those results came at the right time after he struggled to find consistency following the abdominal injury he suffered in March. He will now look to carry that momentum into the clay swing.

This is Davidovich Fokina's debut appearance in Umag. He has played four clay-court events this season, winning his opening match in each but failing to progress beyond the second round. With strong momentum on his side, he will be aiming for a deep run this week.
