Harris Unbroken in Chengdu
Lloyd Harris has won three Challengers this year, victorious in Soma Bay, Tenerife and Brownsburg to inch closer to the Top 100.
The South African lost to Stefanos Tsitsipas in the US Open second round and suffered another second round exit at the Guangzhou Huangpu Challenger.
The 29-year-old got through the Chengdu qualifiers without his serve being broken. He saved all three break points in the first round, a 6-3 6-4 victory over Aleksandar Kovacevic.
Harris took out top seed Valentin Vacherot 6-4 7-6 without giving up a break point. He won 89% of his 1st serves, 69% of his 2nd serves and banged down 16 aces.
Hurkacz on the Long Road Back
Hubert Hurkacz dropped out of the Top 100 in June. He showed some form at Wimbledon, beating Casper Ruud and Tommy Paul before a fourth round defeat to Jan Lennard Struff.
The Pole went out early in Montreal and Cincinnati before winning the Cancun Challenger. He ran into Ben Shelton in the US Open second round and lost in 4 sets.
Hurkacz was too good for Alexander Shevchenko in Chengdu, winning 6-3 7-6 without allowing a break point. He was pushed harder by Martin Damm in the second round, coming through 4-6 6-3 6-4 after winning 52% of his 2nd serves and saving 4/6 break points.
