Yastremska brings valuable experience into this matchup, but Tjen has shown the better level in recent weeks, making her the slight favorite to progress.

Tjen Looks To Break Her Run Of Early Exits

  • Janice Tjen has a 4–4 record against players outside the Top 100 this year.
  • She has failed to clear the first round in four of her last seven events.
  • Dayana Yastremska has a 3–9 record against Top 50 players in 2026.
  • She has an 11–8 record in opening-round matches on tour this year.

Tjen Targets a Confidence Boost

Janice Tjen is coming off a second-round loss in Cincinnati, where she registered a hard-fought straight-sets victory over Viktorija Golubic in the first round before losing to Mirra Andreeva in the following match.

The 24-year-old has played 22 events this year and registered multiple main-draw wins only once, reaching the third round in Dubai. Despite her struggles with consistency, her main-draw wins in higher-profile events have been enough to keep her inside the Top 40.

She will now look to build some momentum this week, with a less competitive draw providing an opportunity to boost her confidence ahead of a demanding schedule in the coming weeks.

Yastremska Looks to Reverse Her Ranking Slide

Dayana Yastremska started the season inside the Top 30 but a lack of form and failure to defend points have pushed her outside the Top 100 in the rankings.

She has played 19 events across all levels this year and, apart from winning the WTA 125 title in Parma and reaching the third round in Parma, she has struggled to win multiple matches in her other events.

She has few points to defend during the remainder of the season, giving her an opportunity to climb back into the Top 100 if she can produce positive results in the coming weeks.
