This will be the first match between Hugo Gaston and Gael Monfils.
Gaston on the Outside Looking In
Hugo Gaston dropped out of the Top 100 in March and keeps sliding in the wrong direction. He comes to Roland Garros having lost five of his last six matches.
The Frenchman failed to qualify in Madrid, Rome, and has been doing nothing of note on the Challenger circuit.
Gaston was last seen in Hamburg where he was thrashed 6-1 6-2 by Ignacio Buse in the second qualifier. He got into the main draw as a lucky loser, saving 9/12 break points in a 3-6 6-3 7-6 first round exit to Karen Khachanov.
Monfils in Final French Open
Gael Monfils is playing sparingly in his final year on tour, going 3-6 and failing to get past the second round in six events.
The 39-year-old had a positive start on clay in Monte Carlo where he beat Tallon Griekspoor in 3 sets. He then ran into Alexander Bublik and went down 6-4 6-4 in 76 minutes.
The Frenchman got a wildcard in Madrid where he lost in the first round, beaten 6-3 6-4 by Camilo Ugo Carabelli after winning just 29% of his 2nd serves.
Monfils won the 2004 boys' singles event at Roland Garros and will now take part in the main draw for the final time.
