Shnaider comes in with good clay momentum, but her struggles against top players and Rybakina’s current level still point toward the Kazakh, even if it’s competitive.

Rybakina Eyes Comfortable Progress

  • Elena Rybakina has not lost an opening-round match on clay since 2023.
  • She has a 15–3 record vs outside Top 10 players.
  • Diana Shnaider has never registered multiple wins in Stuttgart.
  • She has a 1–13 career record vs Top 10 players.

This will be their first meeting.

Rybakina Ready For Clay Challenge

Elena Rybakina returns to action for the first time since her semifinal run in Miami, where she lost to Aryna Sabalenka. It marked her second consecutive defeat to Sabalenka after their clash at Indian Wells.

The Kazakh has maintained strong form since last year, reaching at least the quarterfinal in five of her six events this season, including winning the Australian Open and finishing runner-up in Indian Wells. Her only setback came in Dubai, where she retired against Antonia Ruzic.

On clay, she showed consistency last season, clearing the opening round in all four events, highlighted by a title in Strasbourg and a fourth-round run at the French Open. She has not lost an opening-round match on clay since Madrid 2023.

This will be her fourth appearance in Stuttgart, where she holds a perfect 3-0 record in first-round matches and won the title during her most recent appearance in 2024.

Shnaider Finds Form On Clay

Diana Shnaider moved into the second round in Stuttgart with a dominant 6-3, 6-1 win over Tamara Korpatsch. She broke serve six times, overcoming the two break points she faced.

She had already shown good form on clay in Charleston, defeating Katie Volynets and Leylah Fernandez before falling to eventual champion Jessica Pegula in the quarterfinal.

Shnaider will be pleased with this result after a dip in consistency, having won just two matches across four tournaments from Doha to Miami following a strong start to the season, which included a semifinal in Adelaide and a third-round run at the Australian Open.
