Darja Vidmanova Extends Her Remarkable Tour-Level Surge

Darja Vidmanova secured her place in the quarterfinals after defeating Cristina Bucsa in straight sets in Monterrey, 6-4, 7-5. She trailed by a break in both sets at one stage before fighting back to seal the victory in straight sets.

Until a few weeks ago, she had won only one match at this level, but she has now won six of her last eight tour-level main-draw matches, including her run to the final in Memphis, where she finished runner-up to 16-year-old Kristina Liutova.

She has also registered four other semifinal-or-better results at WTA 125 level. These results helped her reach a career-high ranking of No. 88 earlier this month.

Nikola Bartunkova Targets a Return to the Semifinals

Following Anastasia Potapova's withdrawal, Nikola Bartunkova was scheduled to face lucky loser En-Shuo Liang in the second round and defeated her in a tight three-set battle to secure her place in the quarterfinals, 6-7, 7-5, 6-4.

The 20-year-old has shown steady progress across all levels this year, including reaching the fourth round in Rome and the third round at the Australian Open, Wimbledon and Toronto. These results helped her achieve a career-high ranking of No. 38 recently.

This is the fourth tour-level quarterfinal of her career and her third this year alone. She reached the semifinals in Guadalajara last year but lost her two most recent quarterfinals in Berlin and Ostrava this season.
