The improving Vidmanova should make this competitive, but Tjen’s experience at this level makes her the more likely player to come through.

Tjen Faces A Key Test Against Vidmanova

  • Vidmanova has a 3–7 career record in first-round matches on tour.
  • She has a 1–3 career record against Top 50 players.
  • Tjen has a 10–12 record in opening-round matches on tour this year.
  • He has a 7–12 record against players outside the Top 50 this year.

Vidmanova Builds On Her Rapid Rise In Guadalajara

Darja Vidmanova has raised her level impressively in recent months, reaching the final in Memphis and the quarterfinals in Monterrey, which helped her achieve a career-high ranking of 75 recently.

She also posted four other semifinal-or-better results in WTA 125 events earlier this year. Her steady rise and recent debut in the tour’s top 100 now bring more regular opportunities at WTA Tour-level events.

She made her first tour-level main-draw appearance here in Guadalajara last year, reaching the second round as a qualifier. She is now making a direct appearance with improved confidence and a higher ranking this year.

Tjen Looks To Halt Her Recent Slide

Janice Tjen is coming off a disappointing first-round loss to Mirra Andreeva at the US Open, where she failed to defend her second-round points, pushing her outside the top 50 in the live rankings.

She has played 24 events this year and cleared the opening-round hurdle in only 11 of them. Her only multiple-win run this year came in Dubai, where she reached the third round.

She has to defend significant points this week, otherwise her ranking could decline further. Last year, she played in Sao Paulo during this period and reached the final, meaning she has those points to defend this week while making her Guadalajara debut.
