Daniil Medvedev won 19 of his opening 22 matches this year, getting back into the Top 10. He couldn’t match that form on clay and grass.
The Russian was last seen at the US Open where he won his first three matches in straight sets. He lost 7-6 6-4 7-6 to Frances Tiafoe in the fourth round, winning 37% of his 2nd serves.
The 30-year-old hasn’t done it easy in Hangzhou, giving up 5+ break points in all three wins. He beat Valentin Royer 7-6 6-3, Coleman Wong 6-3 6-7 6-3 and Roman Safiullin 7-5 6-4, his 2nd serve percentage reducing in each match.
Rublev Chasing a Return to the Top 10
Andrey Rublev hasn’t been able to reclaim his Top 10 spot this year, beaten in three semi-finals and losing the Barcelona Open final.
