Burel Rebuilds After Injury

Clara Burel suffered a right knee ACL tear last year that sidelined her for 12 months. She returned to competition in April but has also retired from two matches in recent tournaments.

The Frenchwoman has played only seven events this season, all on clay. After losing her first four matches following her return, she showed encouraging signs by winning the W35 Nice title and reaching the second round at W75 Blois and the WTA 125 Contrexéville.

This is Burel's second appearance in Iasi. On her tournament debut in 2022, she lost in the opening round to Ekaterine Gorgodze.

Putintseva Carries Confidence into Iasi

Yulia Putintseva ended the grass swing with disappointing results, suffering opening-round defeats in Nottingham and Wimbledon. However, she responded quickly by reaching the semifinals of the WTA 125 Bastad event last week.

The Kazakh started the season by reaching the fourth round of the Australian Open, which remains her only tournament with multiple main-draw wins at tour level this year. She has played 11 tour-level events this season and cleared the opening-round hurdle in eight of them.

This is Putintseva's debut appearance in Iasi. She will be looking to carry the confidence from her semifinal run in Bastad into this week's tournament.
