Krejcikova Finds Momentum in Athens

Barbora Krejcikova secured her place in the quarterfinals after defeating Carole Monnet in straight sets, 6-0, 6-2. She saved seven of the eight break points she faced and converted six of the seven break-point opportunities she created.

This is her first hard-court quarterfinal since the Asian swing last year. Earlier this season, she played three hard-court events and managed just one main-draw victory across those tournaments.

The Czech has struggled with fitness issues in recent years, which have significantly disrupted her schedule. However, she has shown encouraging signs in recent weeks, reaching the final in 's-Hertogenbosch and the fourth round at Wimbledon.

Krejcikova owns a 15-15 record in WTA tour-level quarterfinals. Since the start of the 2024 season, she has reached 10 quarterfinals but has been eliminated in eight of them.

Zheng Ends Quarterfinal Drought

Qinwen Zheng advanced to the quarterfinals in Athens after defeating Elena Micic in straight sets, 6-4, 6-1. She fired 13 aces and did not face a single break point throughout the match.

This is her first time winning back-to-back main-draw matches on tour since Rome a few months ago. The result will come as a welcome boost after failing to reach a tour-level quarterfinal since the Queen's Club event in 2025.

The Chinese star has also dealt with fitness issues over the past couple of years and is still searching for her best level. Her best results this season include third-round appearances in Doha, Madrid, and Rome, along with a fourth-round run in Miami.

Zheng heads into this match with a 13-10 record in WTA tour-level quarterfinals, including a strong 8-6 record on hard courts.
