Bondar Carries Clay Confidence Forward
Anna Bondar moved into the second round after defeating Sara Sorribes Tormo in straight sets, 7-5, 6-4. She trailed by a break in both sets before fighting back to seal the victory.
With this win, Bondar snapped a four-match losing streak in opening-round matches and registered her first tour-level main-draw win since March. She is now one victory away from matching her 2024 quarterfinal run in Iasi.
After a slow start to the season, the 29-year-old produced encouraging results during the clay swing, reaching the quarterfinals in Rouen and Rabat, the fourth round in Madrid, and the quarterfinals in Hobart earlier this year.

Slovenian Aims to Regain Consistency
Tamara Zidansek advanced to the second round after coming from a set down to defeat Emiliana Arango, 5-7, 6-2, 6-3. She squandered a 5-2 lead in the opening set but responded strongly to win the next two despite being broken three times across them.
It was a much-needed victory for the Slovenian, who has struggled for results since suffering an ankle injury during the Billie Jean King Cup in April. She is now looking to win multiple matches for the first time since that setback.
Before the injury, Zidansek enjoyed a solid start to the season, reaching the quarterfinals in Canberra and Antalya, the semifinals in Dubrovnik, and the final in Antalya, all at WTA 125 level.
