Parks Keeps Athens Run Alive

Alycia Parks survived a tough three-set battle against Moyuka Uchijima to reach the quarterfinals in Athens, winning 6-7, 6-2, 7-5. She squandered a 4-0 lead in the deciding set, saved a match point, and produced a remarkable comeback to seal the victory.

This is the first time Parks has won back-to-back main-draw matches on tour since March, highlighting the inconsistency that has affected her season in recent months.

Her only notable results over the past seven months have been a third-round appearance in Miami and a quarterfinal run in Ostrava, where she lost to Kayla Volynets in three sets.

Parks heads into this match with a 3-4 record in WTA tour-level quarterfinals. Her most recent victory at this stage came against Rebecca Šramková in Monterrey in 2025.

Sakkari Seeks to Capitalize on Athens Opportunity

Maria Sakkari defeated the struggling Harriet Dart in straight sets, 6-1, 6-2, to reach the quarterfinals in Athens. She was broken once but converted five of the nine break-point opportunities she created.

The 30-year-old has also endured an inconsistent season, although a handful of strong results have helped her remain inside the world's top 50.

Her best performances this year include a semifinal run in Doha and third-round appearances at the French Open and Wimbledon, which represented her only multiple-match wins on tour before this week.

Sakkari heads into this clash with an impressive 24-8 record in WTA hard-court quarterfinals. However, three of those defeats have come in her last four appearances at this stage.
