Alexandra Eala has endured a disappointing start to the Asian swing, losing in the opening round in Singapore before competing at the Asian Games the following week. She had a strong opportunity to win the gold medal but fell to Xiyu Wang in straight sets in the semifinals.
The 21-year-old recently made her top-20 debut after producing impressive results in North America, where she won her maiden tour-level title in Washington, reached the fourth round in Toronto, and advanced to the third round in Cincinnati and at the US Open.
She also recorded five other quarterfinal-or-better finishes on tour, alongside fourth-round appearances at Indian Wells, Miami and Wimbledon. Eala will now aim to reproduce those performances during the Asian swing.
Last year, she played four tour-level events in Asia during this period and won only one main-draw match. A few strong results over the coming weeks would help her consolidate her position in the top 20.
