Penrith Panthers vs Manly Sea Eagles Preview

NRL Round 9 ends with a cracker. Defence has been key for both sides and I like the odds on under the game total with Manly backed with a 12.5 start.

  • Manly have won 4 straight matches under Kieren Foran
  • Penrith concedes an average of 13 points per game.
  • Manly have conceded 15 per game under Kieren Foran.
  • Dylan Edwards has 6 tries in his last 4 games

Head to Head

Manly won the only match of 2025 against Penrith in Round 8, getting up 26-10 at Commbank Stadium.

Manly have won two of the last three against Penrith.

Penrith Panthers Form Analysis - Panthers Bounce Back

After a couple of uneasy weeks for Penrith they bounced back into their clinical selves again wiping the Newcastle Knights off the board with a 44-12 victory at McDonald Jones Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

It was back to Panthers footy, controlling possession (56%) and territory (61%), running in 4 first half tries and finishing the job with another four after the break. The Panthers didn’t leave anything to chance with over 600 more run metres and winning the line break count 8-3.

Through field position and control the Panthers are not giving their opposition any chance, allowing just 13.25 points per game. No team is scoring more points (34.1/G) or conceding less. Sometimes it is just that simple. Panthers footy is back and that is why they are the firm favourites for another premiership.

Manly Sea Eagles Form Analysis - 4-0 Under Foran

Kieren Foran, what a turnaround. 4-0 since the Manly great took over at Brookvale and even winning without Tom Trbojevic in the lineup.

It was another dominant victory for the Sea Eagles when they smashed Parra 33-18 last Sunday afternoon with Foz getting his first and the Sea Eagles first win at home this season.

No one could expect a flip like what has happened for Manly this season. Under Seibold the Sea Eagles conceded 98 points in 3 games, in their last four they have conceded just 60 points at an average of 15 per game.

They have scored an average of 37.75 and no less than 28 in their four matches under Foran and they left points out there against Parramatta early last week.

Manly are dangerous all over the field with Toluta'u Koula, Rueben Garrick and Jason Saab all able to break the line anywhere on the field. The addition of Jamal Fogarty has also helped Manly control the territory and force their opponents to work hard out of their own end.
