Health Secretary Wes Streeting has emerged as a joint-favourite to be the next UK Prime Minister alongside Reform leader Nigel Farage, according to bookmaker Star Sports.
With current Prime Minister Keir Starmer’s leadership under increasing scrutiny, the race to succeed him is heating up.
A wide range of figures, from seasoned political veterans to rising stars, are vying for the top job, and according to Star Sports the leading contenders are Streeting and Farage at 4/1.
Former UKIP leader and Brexit Party founder Farage remains a polarising figure with a strong following among anti-establishment voters, and with the political landscape shifting, the bookies believe the UK is on the brink of an historic election that could end Labour and the Conservatives’ monopoly of Number 10.
However, Star Sports believe he has some serious competition in the form of Streeting, the current Secretary of State for Health and Social Care.
Streeting has emerged as one of Labour’s most dynamic and outspoken MPs, with his mix of pragmatism and progressive values making him an appealing figure for those wanting to balance modernisation with traditional Labour ideals.
Deputy former Prime Minister Angela Rayner is next up at 9/1 despite her recent tax scandal, with current Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood the only other contender priced at 10/1 or shorter.
