Canada are tipped to repeat their commanding group stage win over the Czechs.

The Canadians have so far lived up to their billing as tournament favourites, producing a run of dominant victories that is likely to continue here.

Key Numbers – Can Canada Repeat Group Stage Blowout?

  • Canada out-scored their group opponents 20-3
  • Canada beat the Czech Republic 5-0 in the group stage
  • The Over has cashed in 2 of Canada’s previous 3 games
  • The Over has hit in 2 of the Czech Republic’s 3 games so far

Canada Lead Recent Head-To-Head; Won Last Meeting

  • Canada lead the series 11-1 since 2004
  • Canada won 5-0 when the two teams last met on February 12

Canada Went 3-0 During Group Stage

Canada booked their place in the quarter-finals of the tournament by winning all three group games in emphatic fashion.

The Canadians opened the tournament against their next opponents, the Czech Republic, and were able to shut them out as they ran out 5-0 winners.

They scored five goals in their second outing too, but this time they gave up their first goal of the competition as they beat Switzerland 5-1.

Canada allowed two more goals in their final group game, but that did not prevent them from registering their most one-sided victory to date.

The Canadians hit double digits against France, as nine different scores beat the French goalie in a 10-2 success.

Czech Republic Have Split First 4 Games

The Czech Republic enter this matchup having successfully negotiated the playoff round of the tournament.

The Czechs could not have been handed a tougher start to the Winter Olympics than a meeting with Canada, and it was no shock when they were soundly beaten 5-0.

They rebounded in their second outing though, as they ran out 6-3 winners against France.

The Czech Republic failed to back that up as they then lost 4-3 in overtime against Switzerland, resulting in a third place finish in the group.

That meant the Czechs needed a playoff game to make the quarter-finals, but they got the job done yesterday as they battled past Denmark, 3-2.
