Day two at the July Festival at Newmarket is headlined by the Falmouth Stakes. This Group One provides three-year-old fillies with their first opportunity to take on older mares over a mile and it's the younger generation who dominate the betting for Friday's renewal.

Here's our free guide to the 2026 Falmouth Stakes, including our best betting tips.

Following a minor blip in the 1000 Guineas, Precise has picked up where she left off last season. Aidan O'Brien's filly roared back to form in the Irish 1000 Guineas, and held firm at the head of the field to score in the Coronation Stakes at Royal Ascot.

Donnacha O'Brien's Breeders' Cup winner Balantina finished fifth on her reappearance at Ascot, and should strip fitter for that overdue return to action. Karl Burke's Evolutionist and Charlie Johnston's Venetian Lace also represent the Classic generation, having placed behind True Love in the 1000 Guineas.

Blue Bolt is the leading older filly in the contest, and Andrew Balding's Duke Of Cambridge Stakes winner will have to give the three-year-olds nine pounds. Dahlia Stakes winner, Jancis takes on Blue Bolt again, after finishing second to that rival at Royal Ascot. Ballydoyle's pacemaker Venosa is the final entrant.

2026 Falmouth Stakes Tips

With that 9lb weight-for-age allowance in her favour, I don't see how Blue Bolt beats Precise. Ryan Moore's mount is classy, tough and incredibly straightforward. Balantina has four lengths to find on the favourite from their clash at Royal Ascot, and while she is entitled to improve for that return run, it'll be very difficult for her to bridge that gap.

At an each-way price, EVOLUTIONIST (16/1) appeals most from a betting perspective. Karl Burke's filly beat Lyrics Of Life and Legacy Link to win her maiden over this course and distance last season, before running well when third to Precise in the Fillies' Mile.

Evolutionist made a winning three-year-old return in a Group Three in France. Shane Foley's mount then ran a cracker in the 1000 Guineas at Newmarket, finishing a close second behind True Love after winning her group on the stands' side.

Burke's filly returns to Newmarket on the back of a complete debacle in the Prix de Diane, where she was slowly away, raced keenly and failed to see out the extended ten furlongs. Dropping back to a mile looks a smart move and, like Precise, Evolutionist is well treated against the older fillies and mares at the weights.
